Which Johns Manville Models This Applies To

Same with Climate Pro, if someone blew it in ten years ago and then a cable guy or a rodent crawled through and packed it down. The R-value on the bag isn’t what you have anymore. That’s the first thing we check when we walk an attic in Pasadena.

On the OEM-vs-aftermarket question: Johns Manville doesn’t sell a proprietary “replacement part” for insulation the way an appliance maker sells a replacement compressor. What matters is matching the R-value and the facing type. • Damp or musty-smelling insulation, especially after winter rains. Wet insulation loses most of its R-value and doesn’t dry out well in an enclosed attic, so replacement is usually the right call.
• Rodent droppings, tunnels, or compressed trails running through the material. Rats love fiberglass for nesting. Once they’ve burrowed through Climate Pro or ComfortTherm, the material is too compressed and contaminated to salvage. It needs to come out, the attic needs rodent proofing, and fresh insulation goes in.

Checking your attic depth with a tape measure, looking for wet spots after a rain, and peeking for rodent trails, that’s all safe and smart.
